Shevatya Ghat Ascend, Singapurchi nal descend

Dear All

Last time when we did Boratyachi Nal trek from Singapur village, Singapurchi Nal trek automatically got included and topped the list. Singapurchi Nal Pass is open throughout the year.  During monsoon it is lush green out there. The Pass descends next to the two prominent waterfalls. There is a long Z through which descend continues. Afterwards it joins Boratyachi Nal for further descend to Dapoli village. During Boratyachi Nal descend trek we actually don’t descend it fully instead we take traverse towards Lingana. Boratyachi Nal we did in single day, this time we wanted to make it couple of days. So I was looking through what else we can add to it. Going North Bocheghol and Nisnichi Wat - Chander were options. I have done it before, so dropped it for this time. Coming to South Agya Nal - Ekalgaon is first one, but it remains closed during rains, so next option was Shevtya Ghat. Shevtya Ghat is accessible throughout the year.  There is a huge waterfall called Vaghera nearby.

I have been to villages of Shevtya and Dapoli for pilot recently. Discussed with trekkers who had been to these places in monsoon and detailed the plan.

Tung Korigad 30 june 2013

Dear All

Monsoon has given a grand opening and all the mountains and forts are ready to welcome you. The lush greens and gushing white water streams are waiting for you. As a part of ‘Plastic Clean up Drive on 25 forts in a single day’ organized by YHAI Malad Unit to commemorate its Silver Jubilee, we are visiting forts Tung and Korigad near Lonavala on 30th June 2013.

Please find the details.

Tung (18°3935.2N 73°2738.2E)
Height - 1075 meters
Access – From Lonavala around 20 km via Bushy Dam-INS Shivaji-Ghusalkhamb-Tung wadi
History - Tung Fort was built before 1600 CE. It was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty but was captured by Shivaji. It is small, not being able to hold more than 200 troops at a time. As such, it would not have been able to defend itself on its own for a long time. Its shape and structure suggests that its main function was as a watchtower guarding the road to Pune city. Dhamale family one of the Deshmukh from maval region was charged with ensuring the security of fort tung. During invasion, it served to provide a temporary distraction for invaders. Thus, the major forts of Visapur and Lohagad would have time to ready themselves (to meet the invading army). This fort served as a watch tower in the past because it from top of the fort, Lot of area Maval region of Pawana and Mulshi valley can be seen and thus from the top of the fort watch on these areas can be kept.

Korigad (18°3713.4N 73°2310.4E)
Height - 929 meters
Access – From Lonavala around 22 km via Bushy Dam-INS Shivaji-Ghusalkhamb-Peth Shahapur
History - This fort was incorporated into his kingdom by Shivaji along with the forts of LohagadVisapurTung and Tikona in 1657. On March 11, 1818, Col. Prother tried to take over this fort but even after a prolonged siege could not make any headway. Finally on 14 March, by igniting the stored ammunition by means of a loose cannon ball he succeeded and this fort went to the British.
